Between Festivals
It's not all polymer clay and skittles here. We are learning about the business side of what we do. We are really determined that we will all understand the different aspects of this and ultimately hope that the Sapta Rangi team will be running things themselves and selling their work to Samunnat among others! We have been working very hard to make sure that at least half of our group have a really good understanding of costing and applying pricing formulas. We are learning the language of business and talk about production costs, floor costs, wholesale pricing and retail pricing. Thinking about what materials go into each item, and the components of our labour, and then using this in calculations has been very hard work for many of us but we all feel like we are getting there now and are more confident about working out how long it takes to make one item. All this has been spurred on by some exciting potential developments we hope to be able to share soon but for now, whatever happens, we have all learned a lot and are busy applying our learning to what we do.
We also prepared the polymer clay project for the lesson we will be giving to the travellers on this year's Colourful Journey tour that Bishnu and Wendy will bring through in a month or so. This is great for us as we get paid to give the class and we also to treat the travellers to mehendi (henna) hand painting, eyebrow threading (if they want it!) and other beauty treatments! We love having them to visit us and hope they buy some of our jewellery! We do reward ourselves after all our hard work with some creative fun and are treated ourselves today to a short hairdressing session (a French Roll has been a constant source of interest!) and a session of making beautiful fau
x ivory pods which we love! We plan to do NO MATHS! Photos of our faux ivory soon!
