Samunnat at the Smithsonian!

The work of the Samunnat polymer artists will be shown at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C.

The artists of Samunnat Nepal are thrilled to be part of the upcoming Craft2Wear Show at the Smithsonian Institution.  The Craft2Wear Show, in October, includes wearable art, jewellery, and clothing made by artists previously juried into the prestigious Smithsonian Craft Show. This wonderful opportunity has come from Samunnat’s ongoing collaboration with the renowned artist Kathleen Dustin.

The Samunnat women have been meeting with Kathleen and Wendy Moore online almost every week for the last year. Kathleen has become a great friend of the organisation. They have worked together on designs, techniques and colour choices to produce pieces that have already received widespread acclaim and great sales. So, for the next few months the Samunnat women will be hard at work filling boxes of wonderful products bound for the US.

The Smithsonian Craft Show was held from April 20-24 this year. This curated show involved 120 jury-selected artists from across the US.

Although the Smithsonian shows are limited to pieces made in the US, this collaboration between artists in the US, Nepal and Australia has been selected for inclusion by the Smithsonian Craft2Wear jury.

All of the pieces from the Dustin collaboration are available for purchase in our online store. The women are working on new designs that will be added in the months to come.
